WHAT I ATE: 6 Blue Point Oysters

WHY IT’S GREAT: Everybody loves a good happy hour, especially in the summer season. The first thing my belly craves on a warm summer day is oysters and a crisp cold beverage. Fish provides all of these things in a budget friendly happy hour special called the RED, WHITE & BLUE. Just add their perfectly prepared herby fries and your wine or beer of choice, (for me, it’s PBR all the way) and let yourself unwind into the summer breeze.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: Fish has a classic seafood menu from oysters & mussels to a 12 dozen Maryland Blue Crabs entrée. Some unique items include Horseradish Salmon and Chilean Sea Bass for the more adventurous sea-foodie. Question is bib or no bib…

FUN FACT: Joseph Avery is credited with being the first to plant seed oysters off of Blue Point, his childhood home. (He is also said to have patrolled his oyster bed with a loaded musket for two years while he waited for the bivalves to grow.) Bluepoints became such a successful brand name in NYC, that soon any large oyster from the Great South Bay were called Bluepoints.

THE SPACE: Fish is a perfect mixture of Cape Cod and the West Village. The walls are lined with black and white fishing photos and one impressive mermaid painting I want to steal for living room wall! The tile floor, tin ceiling, and overall coziness bring us back to the West Village – plus one look at that disco ball and you know exactly where you are. Music of choice – classic 80s. For my bivalve lovers out there, you can snuggle right up to their outdoor bar seating, open up the large glass window and watch your oysters being shucked and prepared just for you!

COST: $9.99 for 6 Blue Point Oysters or 6 Clams plus a PBR or a glass of Chardonnay/Merlot – $6 for French Fries
